Danielle (Danii) Clavelle

Danii is a Strength and Conditioning coach in Calgary, Alberta. She has worked with a wide range of people over seven years of personal training, spanning from recreational fitness enthusiasts, weight loss goals, tactical training exams, and competitive powerlifters and strongman athletes. Danii has taken beginner and intermediate lifters to the provincial, regional, National and World level of powerlifting and strongman. Danii specializes in online and in person Strength and Conditioning training and sports performance nutrition with Calgary Barbell, her goal is to find ways to get everyone training to show them what they are capable of and promote a fulfilling and healthy lifestyle.

After accumulating thousands of hours in a corporate personal training studio, in 2019, Danii moved to Calgary to work with Calgary Barbell and complete her Personal Fitness Trainer diploma at Mount Royal University (2021). This allowed her to obtain the most Nationally recognized certification through the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology (CSEP-CPT), work with a wider range of people, and develop new skills.

Through both academics, keeping up with the latest research, and first hand experience Danii has developed a tool box that allows her to create highly individualized and effective strategies for developing athlete success. She uses many models of training, understanding that no single approach is better than the other and will develop to fit the needs of the athlete and the goal. Danii values the coach athlete relationship above all else and believes that communication, collaboration and support are what make Athletes successful. She believes that powerlifting can act as a vehicle of self improvement by allowing athletes to understand and develop discipline and resilience, making them stronger and more capable at what they take on outside of the gym.

Danii has had many achievements of her own in powerlifting, most recently finishing second place in the 76kg open at Commonwealth Games in New Zealand. Competing in both equipped and raw disciplines in 2022 in St.Johns winning gold in equipped and bronze in raw only a day after. She holds the National record for equipped squat, equipped bench only, and the Alberta Provincial records for the raw squat, bench, and total. She competed at Worlds in 2021 in Norway and is eager to get back to the World platform in 2023. She also directs meets, volunteers with Lift4Life, is an excellent game day coach, and provincial referee.

In her free time she likes to summit mountains, play ukelele, read science fiction, drink good coffee and scheme up new recipes. Danii believes that powerlifting is a universal tool we can all benefit from, whether you want to be good at powerlifting, football, climbing, hiking, or even just the activities of daily living, you need to strength train, and understanding the squat, bench and deadlift is a great way to get started.
